Saturday, August 13 - Plan for Western Trip

We have been home two weeks. It is time to move on.

Monday, August 15, we start our on our ~5,000 mile road trip. We plan to be gone for three weeks, returning on (or about) September 6. The overall route is shown below.

We have planned the trip so that we have no more than eight hours of driving each day. Overall, we plan to have a relaxing trip. Highlights will include the following stops:

Madison, WS (stop over)
De Smet, SD (Ingalls Homestead)
Rapid City, SD (Badlands and eastern Black Hills, 2 nights)
Deadwood, SD (Northern and western Black Hills, 2 nights)
Billings, MT (stop over)
Kalispell, MT (Glacier National Park, 3 nights)
Butte, MT (stop over)
Salt Lake City, UT (visiting friends, 3 nights)
Zion National Park, UT (2 nights)
Mesa Verde National Park, UT (2 nights)
Windsor, CO (fly fishing and visiting mom, 2 nights)
La Junta, CO (Bent's Fort)
Manhattan, KS (reliving memories)

Within the Glacier National Park, we have mapped out a day trip as shown:

We have arranged for Christy to take care of the canary and check in on the pond fish while we are gone. We have also installed a pond level control valve which should hold the pond level constant while we are gone. We have never completely resolved the leakage. We procured four 14-day fish feeder blocks and will put two of them in before we leave, letting Christy check them while we are gone.
